Storyteller - Woman with Child and Pot by Diane Lucero (Jemez Pueblo)

This storyteller by Jemez Pueblo artist Diane Lucero was done is great detail with her turquoise necklace and bracelets and elaborate woven blanket worn over her head that cascades down her back.   She is holding a child in one hand and a decorated pot in the other. 

“Storytellers” are clay figures that depict the elders sharing and teaching culture and history through oral traditions with others, most often the younger generation. Children are often seen climbing on adult laps and sitting and listening with great interest and excitement through the narratives.
