Storyteller - Woman with Four Children by Joyce Lucero (Jemez Pueblo)

This storyteller by Jemez Pueblo artist Diane Lucero was done is great detail with her turquoise necklace and bracelets and her long braid wrapping around the front.  This storyteller has two children on her lap and one behind her.  One child is holding a small football while the other appears to be sucking his thumb. 

“Storytellers” are clay figures that depict the elders sharing and teaching culture and history through oral traditions with others, most often the younger generation. Children are often seen climbing on adult laps and sitting and listening with great interest and excitement through the narratives.
