The Elsie Allen Collection, that represents a multigenerational effort to collect and preserve unique Pomo baskets, is featured in this book. It began in the 1940s by Annie Burke who defied Pomo tradition by asking her daughter, Elsie Allen, not to burn her baskets upon her death. Photographs and information on 26 known weavers from the collection offers a look into Pomo culture and the communities of the basketweavers.
