Limestone & Gold Leaf Eagle "Blessing for the Future"by Rollie Grandbois (Turtle Mountain Chippewa)

<< Previous in Sculpture/Carvings Next in Sculpture/Carvings >>
Price: $25,000.00
Item Number: CONSRG02
Rollie Grandbois has brought this golden-colored Texas limestone to life as an eagle carrying prayers for peace and understanding. Its beak is covered in gold leaf, and it sits on a steel base. In Rollie's words, Many of my themes incorporate a stylized eagle, which is usually carved with the mouth open, singing a song of freedom or carrying our prayers to the Creator. This eagle was inspired by the political state of the world as we seem on the verge of war. We ask the eagle to carry our prayers for people to work together and the world to be healed. He also reminds us to give blessings every day and be thankful for what we have.

Rollie grew up on the Chippewa Reservation in Belcourt, North Dakota, and studied at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe. His work can be found in public and private collections throughout the United States, Europe and Japan.

SAD NEWS OF THE PASSING OF ROLLIE GRANDBOIS (TURTLE MOUNTAIN CHIPPEWA) MAY 2016

We are very saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Rollie Grandbois (Turtle Mountain Chippewa). We extend our deepest sympathy to Rollie’s family and close friends at this sad time.

Rollie was an artist with the gift of capturing both beauty and power in his sculpture. A lifetime artist who sculpted for more than 35 years, Rollie was not only well-recognized for his sculpture, but also was looked to as a leader in the world of American Indian art. Rollie inspired and brought artists together through programs and workshops, and helped to reinvigorate the art of sculpture. We are thankful that his work graces the Shop's Sculpture Garden, for all of his support and words of wisdom, and for his contributions of time and energy to the benefit of the arts that he so loved.

Rollie Grandbois’s significant presence will be missed by so many throughout the American Indian art community - artists, patrons, galleries, museums and more across the nation and beyond
