<< Previous in Pottery Next in Pottery >>
Price: $700.00
Item Number: JOP0004
Large "Four Directions Collar Pot" hand built pot reviving early mounds designs and traditional vessels and shapes that are fired outdoors by Cherokee artist Jane Osti.  Note from Jane "The spiraling designs in the four sides of the pot depict the winds blowing to keep the fire alive.  The four points on the rim of the pot repeat the concept of the sacred number four.  The design in this pot is incised"

Cherokee potter Jane Osti was taught by Cherokee National Treasure and Master Potter Anna Mtichell.  She was awarded the second Cherokee National Treasure Award for Pottery in 2005.  Her themes and forms are taken from the prehistoric southeastern Woodland and Mississipian periods, as seen by this lovely water jar with running water design. This beautifully formed and fired jar would make a lovely addition to any collection.
