Bronze "Echoes of Time", 1/30, by Caroline Carpio (Isleta Pueblo)
Item Number: CONSCC01
The steady gaze of this noble eagle from award-winning sculptor Caroline Carpio watches over the corn plants in front of it, the stone cliff dwellings on the side and the kiva on the back. The kiva is surrounded by symbols of life and life-giving water -- rainclouds and lightning, the sun, dragonflies, frogs and tadpoles, and a water serpant. Cast in bronze, Caroline has mounted this beautiful piece on a revolving, wooden base.
Caroline explains this piece with these words, "As Native people, and especially living in a dry climate, our ancestors moved around in order to survive. With their strength and endurance like the eagle, and the guidance and protection from our Creator, we have survived."
Working in clay, Caroline makes both pottery in a contemporary style and the originals of her sculptures that are then cast in bronze. "At times, my artwork is a reflection of my inner prayers and other times, it is the stories of our ancestors that inspire a new vision. I would like my sculptures to preserve a story and educate who we are many generations from now," she says.
Height 21", width 13". Comes with artist's statement and care instructions.
