The Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery in England curated an exhibition in 2004 featuring Richard Green's collection of Plains Indian Art. This book is a companion to that exhibition. The first part of the book consists of five essays relating to the transition and change evident in Plains Indian cultures in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and the theme of stereotypes of Plains Indians. The latter portion of the book features a "catalog" of Richard Green's collection. This includes photographs and descriptions of dozens of items, including regalia, accessories, bags, moccasins, cradleboards, and daily use items.
