|
Item Number: 8048622992
Gladys A. Reichard spent the summers between 1930 and 1933 living at a place on the Reservation called White Sands with Red Point's family where she learned, among other things, the principles of Navajo weaving. She states that the Navajo method of teaching is "showing" with no explanations. She learned that practice is the best experience. In this book, she relates her first hand knowledge about typical blanket weaving, saddleblanket weaving, warp weaving, scalloped edge weaving, double-faced weaving and sandpainting tapestries with comments on history, patterns, materials for natural dyes and simple lessons in learning to weave a Navajo blanket.
