Teec Nos Pos Rug, 45", by Cecelia Dee (Navajo) - SOLD

A bold border of red designs outlined in white on a black background draws the eye to this distinctive Teec Nos Pos style rug woven by Cecilia Dee.  The center features a double diamond with white crosses in the middle of a red background and black border, set on another background of light brown in a white zigzag border.

Teec Nos Pos rugs are considered to be some of the most intricate and vibrant Navajo weavings.  Their look, similar to an Oriental carpet, is believed to have been introduced in the early 1900s by a missionary interested in promoting Navajo weavings to a larger American audience.  They often use bright colors, contrasting outlines and complex geometric patterns, all inside a deep outer border.
