Storyteller - Woman with Five Children by Snowflake Flower (Cochiti Pueblo)

<< Previous in Pottery Next in Pottery >>
Price: $150.00
Item Number: ATST0032

Exuding quiet dignity and serenity, this woman dressed in the traditional Pueblo dress, robe and moccasins is surrounded by five children - perhaps grandchildren or great-grandchildren. The woman is wearing a necklace and a bracelet, and has a prayer feather in her hair.

Snowflake Flower learned to make pottery by observing her grandmother, Estaphanita Herrera, but she did not start making storytellers until the 1980s, after having gone back to school for a degree in education. Snowflake started to add prayer feathers to her storytellers as a way to spread prayer in 1983, when one of her daughters went into a coma during surgery. Her prayers were answered in 1999, when her daughter came out of her coma after 16 years.
