Storyteller - Horse with Two Children Riders by Dorothy Herrera (Cochiti Pueblo)

<< Previous in Pottery Next in Pottery >>
Price: $165.00
Item Number: ATST0006B

Cochiti storyteller artist, Dorothy Herrera, steps out of the bounds of traditional storytellers and creates storytellers from the animal kingdom with whimsical and expressive faces. This black and white Pinto pony seems perplexed at the two children seated on his back with one clutching the other – both of which appear less than thrilled with their ride. This charming piece fascinates and would be a fun addition to any collection.

“Storytellers” are clay figures that depict the elders sharing and teaching culture and history through oral traditions with others, most often the younger generation. Children are often seen climbing on adult laps and sitting and listening with great interest and excitement through the narratives.
