Item Number: FGK004
The Shalako Mana, or Hopi Shalako Maiden, always appears in dances with her brother, the Shalako Taka. They are difficult to tell apart, as both tower over the other katsinas, being seven or eight feet tall, wear elaborate tablitas and robes adorned with rows of eagle feathers. They are believed to direct the clouds to the Hopi mesas.

Tom Fredericks, son of master carver John Fredericks, enjoys carving dolls that use the natural curves of the cottonwood roots that capture the movement of the katsina.
