Shane Hendren has combined several techniques to make this elegant dragonfly pin. The ornate wings are made of shiny, incised sterling silver in baroque design overlaid over dark oxidized silver, while the body is cuttlebone cast, oxidized silver, and the head is a piece of bright blue turquoise. This wonderful pin comes in a shadowbox so that it can be displayed as a piece of art when not being worn.
Master metalsmith Shane Hendren is one of the few Native artists to use the painstaking Japanese technique of marriage of metals, the fusing of layers of different metals. An accomplished bull rider and horse trainer, Shane has won many awards for his outstanding jewelry, including the prestigious Indian Arts and Crafts Association's Artist of the Year for 2007-2008.
