Necklace - Mosaic Inlay Fan by Charlene & Frank Reano (San Felipe & Kewa Pueblos)

Charlene Reano has created this magnificent reversible necklace with 49 tabs inlaid with a different combination of colors on each side. One colorful side features green turquoise, dark orange spiny oyster shell, blue lapis, creamy melon shell and white and gold mother of pearl.  The reverse side features deep orange spiny oyster shell, black jet, dark brown pen shell, shimmering grey mother of pearl and shiny white mother of pearl.  These materials are inlaid as a mosaic onto slices of shell, and the Reanos have cleverly incorporated the natural curvature of the shell into the design of the necklace.

Charlene continues to win many awards for her superlative mosaic inlay jewelry in juried competitions at shows across the country.  Charlene and her husband, Frank Reano (Kewa, formerly Santo Domingo Pueblo), often collaborate on the jewelry.  Known for her innovative designs, Charlene is always experimenting with new materials and coming up with new designs, bringing this ancient technique that was practiced by the ancient Puebloans into the 21st Century.
