Item Number: LBHN038
In this stunning sterling silver necklace, L. Bruce Hodgins has linked flat oval rings with flat round rings to make a fascinating chain. The ends of the toggle clasp are set with garnets.
Bruce Hodgins doesn't like to waste anything, so when he has left over silver, he melts it down into an ingot that is 6" long and 3/8" by 3/8". The puts the ingot through a rolling mill until it is reduced from a 3/8" square to about a 1/8" square. Next, he takes this outside to where he has a draw plate attached to a tree with a vise, and begins to pull the silver through progressively smaller hole until he has the gauge that he wants, usually an 18 or 19 gauge. This produces about 30' to 40' of wire that he wraps around a jump ring maker to produce the links for his chain mail. Sometimes he makes classic chain mail in European or Japanese styles, and sometimes he invents his own styles.
Length 22", width of links 1/2"
