In subtle shades of green and blue with touches of golden brown matrix, this ten strand necklace by Lester Abeyta is made of stabilized turquoise from the Kingman Mine. Interspersed with the turquiose are beads of apple coral. Heishi (olive shell) spacers are set between each bead, allowing the necklace to flow and giving it an added sense of dimension. The ten strands of beads are finished with a traditional wrap, making it very comfortable to wear. This luxurious necklace looks great with jeans and spectacular with a black dress.
Lester Abeyta is known for his traditional stone and shell jewelry that reflects ancient techniques and styles, yet is fashionable in today’s contemporary world. He learned from his parents, Richard and Delia Abeyta, using the traditional pump drill, and sandstone for rolling and polishing with beeswax, tallow and deer hide. Today he uses electric tools, working at his workshop in his home along side his father and his sister Sharon.
