Rollie Grandbois has brought this golden-colored Texas limestone to life as an eagle carrying prayers for peace and understanding. Its beak is covered in gold leaf, and it sits on a steel base. In Rollie's words, Many of my themes incorporate a stylized eagle, which is usually carved with the mouth open, singing a song of freedom or carrying our prayers to the Creator. This eagle was inspired by the political state of the world as we seem on the verge of war. We ask the eagle to carry our prayers for people to work together and the world to be healed. He also reminds us to give blessings every day and be thankful for what we have.
Rollie grew up on the Chippewa Reservation in Belcourt, North Dakota, and studied at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe. Sculpting for over 25 years, his work can be found in public and private collections throughout the United States, Europe and Japan.
Eagle 72" tall, base 23" x 25"
