Kickapoo - Seed Jar with Fire Clouds by Pahponee (Kickapoo)

<< Previous in Pottery Next in Pottery >>
Price: $500.00
Item Number: PAHP073

Pahponee has pit fired the highly burnished red clay pot to achieve the beautiful fire clouds. Starting with carefully selected clay, Pahponee has created this pot on a potter's wheel, burnished it to a perfect shine by hand, and fired it outdoors using buffalo and cow dung. Her mastery of her art can be seen in the glowing finish and the clean lines of this graceful shape.

Pahponee is intrigued by the scorching that can occur during firing outdoors. During this slow firing, the pots are touched by the flame and smoke, absorbing the carbon into the pores of the clay in a random, unpredictable way.

Pahponee has been making pottery since the 1980s, and has won many prestigious awards for her outstanding work. Inspired by her dreams, visions and life experiences, she is always developing new ways to express herself in this malleable medium that incorporates the four elements - earth, water, wind and fire - in a profound way. Her range of techniques and materials -- imported and locally dug clays, hand coiling and wheel throwing pots, kiln or pit firing her pieces, incising textures or designs, building them out of the surface of the pot or polishing it until it glows -- give her the freedom to produce unique pieces that reflect her dreams as well as her meticulous talents.
