In this amazing bolo tie by top inlay artist Dale Edaakie, a majestic bald eagle looks like it is swooping down to catch itself some dinner. In his signature bolo style, Dale has fixed a sterling silver cutout of an eagle's head onto the tips of the bolo. His finely detailed work shows every feather and gives this noble bird a sense of motion that makes you feel that you can hear its cry and the wind rushing under its wings.
Dale is well known for his impeccable work in a style known as overlay inlay. He first cut the design out of an upper layer of silver that is the overlaid onto a solid lower layer. Then he cut dark brown penn shell, and white and gold lip mother of pearl to fit snugly into the cut out portions. After that, he engraved details into the shell that give his pieces their distinction. He learned these techniques from his parents, master inlay jewelers Dennis and Nancy Edaakie.
