Ganado Rug by Arnold Begay (Navajo)
|
Item Number: BFR091
Woven in reddish brown, two shades of grey, white and black on a red background, this Ganado rug has an intricate pattern of a central terraced diamond inside a terraced border. It's small size makes it good for hanging on the wall, draping over the back of a chair or even on a table.
Ganado rugs are considered the quintessential Navajo rugs. This style was developed with the influence and guidance of renowned trader Juan Lorenzo Hubble in the 1870s. He encouraged the weavers he bought rugs from to use natural colors, with the exception of the deep red that has become known as "Ganado red."
Rug care and hanging instructions included with purchase. If you would also like velcro, at no additional cost, for hanging your rug, click on "Contact Us" below to make your request. For more information on Navajo Weaving, see our Highlight of the Month for March 2005.
