Cherokee Pot with Decorated Shoulder by Dean Reed (Cherokee)

Dean Reed used traditional, hand-carved wooden paddles to incise an interwoven design on the shoulders of this graceful traditional pot. To make the pot, she digs and processes local clay, hand builds the pot by the coiling method and fires it outdoors.

 

Dean is a founding member of the Cherokee Potters Guild, and demonstrates traditional pottery making at the Oconoluftee Village.
