Item Number: 8081663947
The power, beauty and history of Plains Indian Shirts was presented in a 2001 exhibit co-produced by The Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the National Museum of the American Indian/Smithsonian Institution. This book is a companion to that exhibit. Beauty, Honor, and Tradition: The Legacy of Plains Indian Shirts was curated by George P. Horse Capture and his son, Joseph D. Horse Capture, members of the A'aninin Indian Tribe of Montana. The duo selected shirts from the collection of The National Museum of the American Indian. With great insight into the culture and history of the Plains Indian people, as well as quotes from Crow, Blackfeet, Northern Cheyenne and Lakota people, the duo relay the importance of the shirt, the skill of the artisans who made them and the importance of the people who earned the right to wear them. You are invited to "enter this world."
