Beaded Medallion Necklace by Amy Caesar (Pawnee)

This beaded necklace by Amy Caesar uses brightly colored cut glass beads in blue, orange, red, white and yellow in the medallion and larger blue, red, yellow and black beads and antler on the necklace.  These glistening, cut glass beads bring a sparkle to the necklace and to the wearer.

Amy learned to do beadwork from her mother, Arlene Paddlety Caesar (Kiowa), who is skilled in the arts of traditional and contemporary ribbonwork clothing and dance apparel, and elaborate beadwork and leatherwork, including beaded jewelry, full-size and miniature medicine bags and buckskin animal pins filled with cedar. Arlene learned from her aunt, Winifred Paddlety Littleman, who learned from her mother, Magdeline Podoti Paddlety. Today, Amy and her sister, Krystal, are continuing their mother’s traditions. Amy travels the Southern Plains powwow circuit with her family where all of their work is in great demand.
